Part three of my review warzone series part two is found here.

Ok now on to brotherhood miniatures. I won't be assembling or painting these until I van get my hand on an airbrush, I want them in white and I am really bad at getting a smooth coat of white with a brush.

Well enough chit chat let's look at some pictures.

This is the very fine box I get them all in, the writing is my own they didnt come sorted after faction (although they almost did), I did that, when I was supposed to be practising on my one dimenisonal analysis, kind if like right now (though now it's linear algebra I should be working on)

Sacred Warriors! Except for the fact that a lot of parts had been knocked of the sprue and some bent swords (which I'll straighten out with some hot water), they are in perfect condition. You don't need me to tell you they're very nice minis you have the pictures.

Inquisitors, slightly bended chain-saw thingies on those weapons thatI should know the name of but I cant remember. Much less so than the swords of the sacred warriors though so no problem, I heard some had had problems with the cloth things on the left, I have no idea how they got those bent because they're fairly thick.

Crucifier, only problem is a large bubble in the cloak but I intend to make it larger and write it of as battledamage. By working with the faults that are already there you get unique miniatures.

Judicator, no problems with this guy aside from again a slightly bent sword (see next picture), I cant stress hpw good looking this mini is, if there is one mini that can give Alakhai a run for his position as most awesome mini in WZR then it's this guy, the crispness of the detail that is one of the reasons that the swords are bent or broken (we'll get there) comes into it's own and becomes something very positive on these larger sets. the shoulder-pads and cloak of this guy just look great.

Yeah the bent sword as I said again nothing hot water won't fix.

 Brotherhood warriors, in prime condition.

Cardinal Dominic, I want you to look at his face, isn't that level of detail awesome? This is how you make a cruel looking man. Games-workshop, I hope you're watching cause you're starting to lag behind people like Prodos (as well as others) and sooner or later that will come back to hurt your sales.

However his sword looks like a snake. However I think that's the last mini with a bent sword (yay!)

And another unit of brotherhood warriors.

and on to brotherhood cards.

This is the second article in my Warzone ressurection Review series. For the first part look here.

This article is about cards, Warzone use a card system for tactics hidden wargear and other unexpected events. The effects on the card i will not go into I will list the stacks I got, which cards I got, how many of them I got and to which categories they belong.

These all have an awesome look and many have good old Paul Bonner artwork, which along with the fact that they are card reminds me of the doomtrooper cardgame. Oh and the quality is great the only downside of card quality is the sharp corners.

Let's get on with it.
This is the undead legionarie stack I got it from buying a set of undead legionaries.
Unit Card: Undead Legionary 1x
Strategy Card Symbiotic Evolution 2x
Tactical Card Moment of Clarity 2x
Gear card Blessing of Algeroth 1x

Necromutant (squad commander) stack, from buying squad commander necromutants.
Unit Card: Necromutant (Leader Squad Commander) 1x
Strategy Card Unnatural Advance 2x
Tactical Card Insalubrious detonation 2x
Gear Card Black Liquid Grenade 1x

Necrobeast Riders Stack from buying necrobeast riders, I bought two sets of necrobeast riders so I have twice what it says here.
Unit Card Necrobeast Riders 1x
Strategy Card Black Liquid Injection 2x
Tactical Card Bestial Attack 2x
Gear Card Hydraulic Jaw 1x

Praetorian Stalker Stack, you know the drill, from Stalkers set
Unit Card Praetorian Stalkers 1x
Tactical Card An Eye For An Eye 2x
Tactical Card Dark Interception 2x
Gear Card Arcane Regurgitation 1x

 Golgotha Stack
Unit Card Golgotha 1x
Strategy Card Un-leashed 2x
Tactical Card Touched by the dark mistress 2x
Gear Card Spiritual Mutilation 1x

 Dark Legion starter stack
Unit Cards 3x
Alakhai 1x
Undead Legionnaires 1x
Razide 1x
Strategy Cards 15x

Dark Puppetry 3x
Symbiotic Evaluators 3x
Symbiotic Bioscopes 3x
Algeroth's Dark Pattern 3x
Flow of Symmetry 3x
Tactical Cards 39x

Mask of Semai 3x
Moment of Clarity 3x
Induce Cowardice 3x
Necromutation 3x
Ripped From Reality 3x
Blood-Lust 3x
Thermo Instability 3x
Dark Technology Warp 3x
Dark Reversal 3x
Corrosion 3x
The Void'sVacuum 3x
Plague Ridden 3x
Gear Cards 12x

Encroaching Darkness 3x
Blessing of Algeroth 3x
Gaze of Algeroth 3x
Heightened Senses 3x
Resource Cards 8x
Necrochamber 8x

And that's it that's the dark legion cards I got, I think I have all I'm supposed to have the number always came in nice and even. Now for a question of design.

This black stain appears on all of the cards with a textbox so I'm guessing it's some kind of design element. However as you can see in the enxt picture it can obscure text at times so when you next redo these cards Prodos I'd advice you to drop that stain.

That's all for Dark legion cards, join me in the next update for Brotherhood miniatures.

Lo folks, today we'll start something very different, Like I said last time my Warzone resurrection miniatures from Prodos have arrived and now finally I have had the time to make a full review of them to post here, the review will be broken up into nine (that's right 9) segments of varying length, each one dealing with the either miniatures or cards of one of the three factions I have ordered, The Dark Legion, Bauhaus and The Brotherhood. Then one each for cards and miniatures that are outside of these factions and then finally in the end one for the rule book.

Ok let get going. I'll start with the models I have already assembled, the first one is of course the necrobeast rider from last update he won't show up here again you'll simply have to scroll.

This Ladies and gentlemen is Alakhai the cunning Nepharite overlord and supreme commander of Algeroth Forces on Venus. That thing he's standing on is not a standard 30mm base, aside from it being a scenic base from secret weapons miniatures, it's also a 40mm base, why do I have him on a scenic base? Well because he simply won't fit on the 40mm base he was supplied with, that's how big he is. Honestly this can be one of the most bad-ass miniatures of all time.

From another point of view, you'll notice he like so many of my other minis is facing downwards on his scenic base. I never got the facing upwards thing, if you're over 2 meters tall (I'm not saying 7 feet I refuse to subscribe to the use of archaic units of measurement, the scientist in me simply will not allow it) there isn't much you need to look up on.

This is a Razide, again on a scenic base, I don't think he'll be on that base in the end though. It's a desert base and I'm going elsewhere with my dark legion. Yes I know I promised to tell you of my project but I want to have something to show you before I tell you.
This guy is even larger than Alakhai and looks absolutly stunning, now I just want my alternative weapon for him, Prodos (nudge nudge).

Limited edition dice, if the Mutant chronicles 3rd edition roleplaying game's symetry dice are d20 then these are so the perfect dice for that (except possible Ilian marked dice). It's weird though arent usually a symbol on a D20 replacing the 20 rather than the 1?

Golgotha Mistress of Pain. Some people have reported broken back spines on their Golgotha, I have had no such problem, I'm a little worried about the fingers on her right hand though.
Again I have something special in mind for this one, stay tuned.

Undead Legionaries, there will be more pictures of the other 'boxes' of them later on (2 'boxes' of five in the dark legion starter and I bought one extra.

Praetorian Stalkers, the armoured fist of Algeroth. The elgs are awesome with really nice intricate pattern on the armour, this is however the first set I had some issues with, so let's look closer at those.
These are their weapons, notice something? Yeah they are holding the stock outside of the elbow and it's molded that way, there simply is no way to fix this and it really sucks cause aside from that they are great minis.
This is however a more serious issue, this body of a stalker lay lose in the bag it had broken of the sprue, because the 'bar' of resin that held it to the sprue is as you can see hollow. So I went and removed the hollow bar to find this:
Yep a fair portion of the body is also hollow, now to Prodos' defence there was no way of telling as long as it sat on the sprue, but making this body work is going to take quite a lot of effort. I might even ask them for a replacement.

Necrobeast rider just like the one from the last update, well not exactly alike I did convert that one but anyway great mini, no issues.

Necromutants again a wonderful set it's a little shame that they share heads with the centurions on the necrobeasts, but it could have something to do with a fluff change that we'll get back to in the book section later on.

Here's ten undead legionaries if you zoom on the picture you'll see that the stocks of their weapons are very thin and run a serious risk of breaking. In fact one of them have either not filled the mold properly or broken in transport. This one:
As you can see it's very thin and has already broken. They arent much thicker than the flash around them. I'll have to see what Prodos' policy is regarding transportation damage, not that I absolutely need a replacement but if they were to offer one I'd accept and be very impressed.

And Dark legion mission markers, honestly I don't remember ordering these, I might have... or you get them free with each starter set which then leads to the question why I only have the dark legion ones. Or I simply had some money left over as I neared the end of the pledge calulator and these were the only thign cheap enough.

Now on the the next part, Dark Legion Cards.

Joy to the blog for the minis has come!

Lo folks, my Warzone ressurection minis from Prodos has arrived and though I should really be doing maths right now I've assembled and began converted one, mostly through bending it under hot water, you see this is the first resin mini I have assembled (well kind of) and I had to try that technique. But without further ado here's a necrobeast rider.

First you'll notice the fin, the necrobeast was so sharklike that i wanted to add a shark fin on it. Also consider it lampshading for my next project that I will unveil in the comming days. After making the fin (in superglue paper and thin wellpapp) I relaised shark dont have long sinous tails but after bending I slightly it gave the model a nice feeling of movement so i kept it that way and decided to make it even more obvious.
It sort of reminded me (in pose not in actual nature of the beast) of a cover of one of the first fantasy books I ever read (points if you can name which one it is):

And I decided to try to make it, even more so. Turns out when you plan on bending resin, do it before assembly cause while hot water allows you to bend something it also causes everything else to go back to it's original shape. Well in the end I'm fairly pleased with the results.:
Though the head is a real bastard to get to bend the slightest and I think I've damaged both the right side paws (right from the models perspective)
And a little more from the top.
How do you like my new dinner table by the way? Knowing myself real wood might not have been the best idea...

You'll notice that the head inst glued on that's because I plan on doing something special with it. Relating to that foreshadowing I was talking about but I'll be back with more on that tomorrow or the day after.
Until next time, have a nice time. Now I'm of back to memorising trigonometric identities.

The problems of big swords in fantasy

Lo folks with the release of the new hag garneth executioners for warhammer I would like to point of some problems with big swords in fantasy. The idea when wielding large swords in a formation is what the elves in the beginning of lotr fellowship of the ring does, a cyclical swing, now lets take a look at my sketches on how that's supposed to work and what happens if your blade is to large.

The upper row is how it works, the blade moves in a single smooth circle never ever retarding (de-accelerating) the angular momentum, notice picture three where the swordsman bends his arms to let the blade pass under them, also notice that even with a sword just about his own length he seems to hit the ground, now he can probably even in a tight formation allow it some angle to the side and manage the swing anyway, and he can probably stretch himself more allowing for a bigger blade or more room between the tip and the ground, but to wield a much larger sword he needs to increase the angle (See the second picture)
The lower one shows the problem with the larger sword already in 3 he hits the ground, in 4 he actually needs to jump to let the sword pass beneath him.

Now to explain the part about the angle, consider we follow a cycle of a swing seen from the front and and paint a line where the tip has been.
Now that swing would hit the ground but should I angle the blade slightly the depth of the swing can be reduced by a factor of cosine of the angle between the two swings.

like this
This is exactly the same line with exactly the same  mid point, drawn in paint copied and rotated in photoshop. Now a real cyckle isnt that static with it midpoint, but it is a fair representation of the concept.

oh and a picture of the 'offending' miniatures.

As you can see even if standing on their toes these guys cant let the blade pass beneath their arms without and angle and the slightest angle means the guy beside him loses a foot.

But that's all my complaining for today.

until next time...

like... zombies and aliens... and stuff...

Hello again folks today I have three additional minis painted up, what my man shaggy would probably call like zombies and aliens and stuff, in short more dark legion.

First up this Immaculate Fury, you can see I once again changed the way I paint daemonic flesh (but I wont be repainting my nepharite, I simply do not have the time) the new paint job being spacewolfs grey washed with nightshade. I went for red eyes, I will consistently go for red eyes on 'daemonic' members of the dark legion.

And the same guy again from a different angle. He is standing on the side of the base as if turning because he heard a sound. It looks good but makes him hard to balance. I might add some sort of weight to his base at a later date.

And a final angle, his loincloth is the only cloth on him and so is the only piece of him actually painted in the main army scheme of dark blue. Now some of you will know that the current ruleset for warzone ressurection does not have rules for imaculate furies so this guy will have to serve as a Razide until he gets rules.

Illian templar, I have  ahard time deciding if i like this mini or not, unpainted he looks very crude, no details and lots of flash. But painted he looks really good. The mantle is, main colour scheme for the army, blue. The skin is blue like on the fury and metallic parts are obviously metallic.

And in better lighting and a different angle. he looks really menacing if you ask me, I'm really pleased with him. From this angle you'll see that his eyes are  green, I will go for green eyes on all helmeted heads in the army. Observant viewers will also not I have decided on a simple stripe of white on the base to denote the front instead of the triangle the previous miniatures had. simply because I dont like my skill at free handing even something as simple as a triangle. Oh and this guy is of course the alien in the title which lead us to...

...Zombies! Another crew member from the unholy cannonade. I wanted him to have somewhat realistic colours in his uniform so I didn't go for the main colour blue, instead I went for a khaki scheme that once washed nightshade ended up very grey. You'll notice the eyes are quite unpainted, this is totally unintentional, these guys arent brought to life by magic but by evil science, there's no reason they should have glowing eyes, the blue eyes of the skeleton was a book reference otherwise there wont be any glowing eyes on undead in the army.

All in all these minis look good next to each other and the red of the bases contrasts nicely with the cold blues of the bases and makes it look like they're in the desert at night which is what I would have liked it to but never thought i was good enough to get across. then again it could just be positive bias.

On an unrelated note I'd like to promote my new writing blog, ye olde fictionwriter. this will leave whispers from the warp more focused on painting and rules ideas. I might still post wargaming relevant stories here I actually haven't decided yet.

Well that's all for now, and I'll see you next time.
